update

Engine works fine!
The top speed I achieved is 111Km/h, downhill, measured by GPS.
According to speedo around 120-125.

Hi Lipton, did you up-jet the carb also?

Good news, thanks for informing us.

Yes!
The original Liberty 200 main jet 83, but my airbox is a bit more opened than the original one. Therefore I increase the main jet from 83 to 105.
I have a GT200 carb, but I didnt have time to try it.
I have tachometer, when the speed 111Km/h (GPS), then the rev nearly 8000.

Hi Lipton,
Thanks for the carb info. I presume the carb used is the original ET4 125? Do you think the acceleration is comparable to the Malossi 187 upgrade?

I've heard from a US Vespa Forum that with this combo the original variator works very well. Did you keep the variator stock, except the weights?

I'm shortly before doing this very same upgrade, hence the many questions.

Greetings, Robert

Right now I am using the original ET4 150 carburetor. I didn’t have time to properly try the GT200 carburetor until now.

I only went once with Mallossi cylinder in ET, but that was a long time ago and the gear ratio was different.

The Mallossi cylinder is 187cc, the Libery is 198cc, but the compression ratio in the Mallossi is a bit better, because the top of the piston is different. I couldn’t find any factory performance data about the Mallossi. The Mallossi cylinder is 300€, the Libery is 183€. There shouldn’t be any big difference between the 2 as both are held in with a 2V cylinder head.

I am using the original ET4 150 variator (this is a bit different from the ET4 125 variator), but with Dr. Pulley rollers. There is hardly any difference in feel between the original factory rollers and the this.

I also have a Polini primary gear in the Vespa.

Hi Lipton, I'm interested to know if you remounted the cam decompression assembly, or did you leave this out while reassembling the cylinder head. I think I may just leave this and run the motor without.

About the compression, is there a thinner gasket available?

Greetings.

Yes, I remounted the decompression assembly, but i want to remove it.
Cyilinder head gasket is available in just one thickness.
Gasket between crankcase and cylinder is available in 3 thickness. 0.4mm, 0.6mm and 0.8mm. I used the 0.4mm.

Hi Lipton, could you give info about the differences in compression ratios? Original/Malossi/Liberty 200?

Perhaps excluding the decompression assembly could give a small increase in RPM response, maybe this could make up for the slight loss in compression.

Any thoughts about this?

Greetings, and thanks again for the infos.

ET4 125: 10.6:1
ET4 150: 10.1-11.1:1
Liberty 200: 9.5:1
Malossi: 11.5:1

The decompression device only works at self-start. It lifts a bit the exhaust valve, so the engine could turn on easier/faster at first. This only works at low speed, at the beginning of switch on. When the engine is running, it has no effect on the compression.
Whit dismounting, and rotating mass decrease, its easier to speed up the engine, but this is such low weight, practically you are unable to feel if it is taken off.

Hi Lipton,
OK. I've decided mostly to go with the 200 kit. I feel the lesser compression will aid the longevity of the motor, plus I'm enthused about using "all Piaggio" parts to make my scooter a quick starter from the traffic lights. The phrase "there is no replacement for displacement" deems true. Firstly I will do without the gear upgrade as I rarely ride faster than 80kmh anyway. I want quick speed. I'll keep also the Piaggio Variator, but try the Dr.Pulley sliders.

Many thanks for the information, and all the best to you and your beautiful Vespa!
